Painting in order to dream. Alliances as psychic support: on the construction of transcription capacity

Abstract

This article revisits a previously published clinical case; this reexamination was prompted by the reflections sparked by the tribute to René Kaës. It gives an account of the work put into a sustained analysis, guided by the perspectives that nourished my formation, inhabited by the work of René Kaës, particularly in relation to the category of transcription. The work carried out addresses the process of an individual analysis of a 45-year-old woman who experienced a situation of abuse that could be traced back to early childhood. Her dreams and pictorial artistic production assumed a central role. These emerged as materials that enabled processes of transcription of traumatic inscriptions, which had pictographically inscribed childhood experiences in the form of respiratory disorders and, later, in her couple life, as a repetitive attachment to abusive relationships, as well as a marked difficulty in displaying and promoting the development of her work.
